Job Purpose
The Food Security Cluster/Sector Coordinator (CC) is responsible for ensuring timely, coherent, and effective food security interventions during humanitarian crises. This role involves mobilizing and supporting stakeholders to deliver a coordinated and strategic response. Key functions include facilitating stakeholder engagement, enhancing linkages between humanitarian and development partners, ensuring food security is represented in the overall humanitarian response, and supporting service delivery. The CC will inform strategic decisions of the Humanitarian Coordinator and Country Team, coordinate planning and preparedness, monitor and evaluate performance, build capacity of cluster members, and advocate for food security needs, ensuring accountability to affected populations.
Responsibilities
The Food Security Cluster/Sector Coordinator (CC) is responsible for ensuring a timely, coherent, and effective food security response during humanitarian crises. This involves mobilizing and supporting various stakeholders to deliver a coordinated and strategic intervention. Key responsibilities include facilitating a unified response by engaging stakeholders strategically, strengthening linkages between food security actors and development partners, and ensuring food security is adequately represented in the overall humanitarian response. The CC also supports service delivery, informs strategic decisions of humanitarian leadership, and coordinates cluster strategies, including contingency planning and preparedness. Monitoring and evaluating cluster performance, building the capacity of national and cluster members, and advocating for food security needs are also crucial. Furthermore, the role emphasizes accountability to affected populations, impartial collaboration with all cluster members, and close liaison with UN officials and other humanitarian stakeholders. The coordinator manages the establishment and governance of the Food Security Cluster, contributes to needs assessments and response plans, ensures regular information sharing, and promotes the application of common standards and participatory approaches. They also lead advocacy, resource mobilization, and contribute to managing pooled funding schemes, while identifying and addressing capacity gaps through training. The CC supervises support staff and contributes to global cluster initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in humanitarian response at a mid or senior level is required. Experience specifically in food security-related topics is mandatory. Experience with inter-agency coordination is desirable.
