Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will contribute to the daily planning and coordination of WFP's logistics operations in Bria, CAR. This role involves monitoring services provided by external organizations to ensure cost-effectiveness and achievement of objectives. The officer will support the development of logistics plans and processes, manage logistics projects, and analyze data to recommend improvements for local operations. Key responsibilities include contributing to pipeline planning, managing supply chain aspects like procurement and customs clearance, and providing technical support to other units, especially during emergency responses. The position also entails financial analysis, budget review, reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and capacity building for WFP staff and partners. The role requires guiding junior staff, building relationships with logistics colleagues, and participating in emergency preparedness and process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
The role involves contributing to the development and implementation of logistics plans and processes, ensuring adherence to WFP standards and policies. Key responsibilities include supporting or managing logistics projects and operational activities to facilitate the effective delivery of food assistance. This requires collecting and analyzing data to recommend improvements for local logistics operations and conducting financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize fund utilization. The position also entails contributing to operational pipeline planning and managing supply chain aspects such as procurement, shipping, and customs clearance. Providing technical support to other units, especially during emergency responses, is crucial. Additionally, the role involves guiding junior staff, preparing accurate and timely reports with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners. Building relationships with logistics colleagues and participating in emergency preparedness and process reviews to enhance efficiency are also essential duties. The role may also require acting in an emergency response capacity as needed.
Work Experience
Candidates should have experience in commercial or humanitarian transportation, including monitoring market conditions, handling shipments, customs clearance, and coordinating procurement and transportation processes. Experience in warehouse and commodity management, along with working with corporate systems (databases, software), is also desired for this role.
