Job Purpose
The Nurse Coordinator will be responsible for strengthening and maintaining the implementation of Mandatory Health Support Elements (MHSE) within the UN system in Venezuela. This includes overseeing primary and hospital care, mental health services, medical clearance, emergency response, and pharmaceutical access. The role serves as the country-level focal point for medical evacuations, ensuring effective coordination with various healthcare providers and stakeholders. The Nurse Coordinator will continuously monitor the national health system's capabilities and quality of services to facilitate timely access for UN personnel. Additionally, the position involves managing telemedicine mechanisms, supervising pharmaceutical agreements, monitoring medication stocks, and coordinating vaccination programs and campaigns. The role also includes organizing health-related training, facilitating fitness-to-work assessments, providing preventive health advice, and reporting on health statistics. A key aspect is monitoring health risks, epidemiological outbreaks, and environmental threats, recommending and implementing mitigation measures to ensure personnel health and operational continuity.
Responsibilities
The Nurse Coordinator, under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Coordinator and in close collaboration with UN agencies and global medical offices, is responsible for maintaining and strengthening Mandatory Health Support Elements (MHSE). This includes primary and hospital care, mental health, medical clearance, emergency response, and pharmaceutical access, with a focus on continuous improvement. The role serves as the country-level focal point for medical evacuations (medevac), coordinating with private clinics, UN medical services, and other relevant entities. Key duties involve updating information on the national health system, overseeing telemedicine mechanisms, and managing pharmaceutical agreements, including stock monitoring and needs projection. The Nurse Coordinator also verifies staff vaccination status, coordinates vaccine acquisition, and supports vaccination campaigns. Furthermore, they organize health-related training, facilitate information exchange with UN medical services, and assist with fitness-to-work evaluations. Providing preventive health advice, consolidating health statistics, and monitoring health risks, epidemiological outbreaks, and environmental threats are also crucial responsibilities. The position requires strong technical knowledge, confidentiality, planning, organizational, and analytical skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities for diverse and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in nursing. Of this, at least three years must be directly related to functions similar to the position's requirements.
