Job Purpose
The Security Operations Support Officer in Ambovombe will play a crucial role in supporting the management of WFP's daily security operations. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and security of WFP personnel, activities, and facilities, thereby enabling the effective delivery of vital food assistance programs. The role involves contributing to security planning, liaising with UN security bodies, ensuring compliance with security standards, managing access control, and supporting the security budget and equipment. Additionally, the officer will assist in security-related HR matters, gather local security intelligence, prepare reports, and provide essential security briefings and training to staff, ultimately contributing to a secure operational environment in Madagascar.
Responsibilities
The Security Operations Support Officer is responsible for managing WFP's day-to-day security operations to ensure the effective delivery of programs and maintain the safety of personnel, activities, and facilities. Key responsibilities include contributing to security and safety contingency planning, ensuring the standardization and implementation of plans, and regularly testing emergency systems across WFP facilities. The officer liaises with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and in-country security management, attending meetings to keep WFP staff informed on security matters. They provide operational support to various WFP offices to achieve compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Operational Residential Security Standards (MORSS). Furthermore, the role involves managing facilities access control measures to safeguard WFP staff and visitors, adhering to UNSMS best practices. The officer supports the security budget, including procurement planning for efficient resource management, and is responsible for managing security equipment to ensure it is issued correctly and maintained in serviceable condition. Liaison with Human Resources on security staffing matters, such as recruitment and capacity building, is also crucial. The officer collects information on local security developments, prepares timely reports for senior management, and provides security orientation briefings to new staff. Additionally, they support training activities to enhance security capabilities and assist the supervisor during emergencies.
Work Experience
Requires one or more years of progressive professional experience in security management (military, policy, or corporate) or security risk management. A background and interest in international humanitarian development are also needed. Experience in managing support staff is essential.
