The Jordan Country Office is relocating its Amman premises, requiring significant upgrade and fit-out works, alongside restoration of the old facility.
Job Purpose
The Engineer will provide critical technical expertise and on-site oversight for the WFP Jordan Country Office's relocation project in Amman. This role is essential for ensuring the successful delivery of both the new facility's upgrade and fit-out works, and the restoration of the existing premises. The primary purpose is to manage and supervise all construction and consultancy activities, guaranteeing adherence to contractual requirements, international construction standards, local regulations, and WFP's stringent quality standards. The Engineer will serve as WFP's focal point at the site, offering day-to-day technical support and guidance throughout the entire project lifecycle. This includes reviewing designs, monitoring implementation, ensuring safety and quality, and facilitating the commissioning and handover processes. The role is pivotal in safeguarding WFP's assets and ensuring operational readiness in a new, compliant environment.
Responsibilities
The Site Engineer's primary responsibilities involve providing comprehensive technical expertise and oversight for WFP's office relocation and restoration projects in Amman. This includes conducting detailed assessments, preparing technical reports, and developing engineering designs, encompassing drawings, scope of works, technical specifications, and Bills of Quantities. The role supports tender processes in line with WFP standards. A crucial aspect is the day-to-day on-site supervision of construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to WFP specifications, international construction standards, local regulations, and WFP quality standards, as well as safety, quality, and environmental management plans. The engineer reviews and validates contractor submissions like detailed designs, shop drawings, and material approvals, ensuring technical correctness. They monitor the installation of various systems, including solar pumping units and related mechanical/electrical works, and approve material test results. Maintaining meticulous site records, progress reports, and meeting minutes is essential. The role requires active participation in progress meetings and effective coordination with contractors, community representatives, WFP Engineering, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the engineer provides guidance to contractors and consultants, undertakes administrative tasks, offers project management services, and supports the commissioning and final handover processes, including user training and documentation. Ensuring contractors comply with health and safety standards and reporting any breaches or incidents is also a key accountability.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
