Communications Volunteer

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and building pathways to peace, stability, and prosperity. This Communications Volunteer position is based in the WFP El Salvador office, reporting to the Senior Communications Assistant. The role supports the Communications Unit in managing and producing digital and audiovisual content.
Job Purpose
The Communications Volunteer will provide comprehensive support to the Communications Unit in the management, design, and production of digital and audiovisual content. This includes developing creative proposals and assisting with visibility activities to effectively position, document, and disseminate the impact of WFP's mandate, "Saving Lives Changing Lives," in El Salvador. The volunteer will contribute to brainstorming, designing, and drafting content for WFP's Country Office social media and the Representative's institutional account. They will also support data registration for publications, assist in adapting global campaign materials for local audiences, and help design basic graphic pieces and edit short videos for digital platforms. Additionally, the role involves providing logistical and technical support for photo and video coverage during official events and field visits, translating documents, and assisting with daily operational tasks within the communications area.
Responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive support to the Communications Unit, focusing on digital and audiovisual content management, creative proposal development, and visibility activities. Key responsibilities include brainstorming, designing, and writing content for social media platforms and institutional accounts, as well as assisting in data recording for monthly performance reports. The position requires creative adaptation of global and regional campaign materials for local audiences. Additionally, there is a need to support the design of basic graphic elements and the editing of short videos for digital platforms. Field coverage and logistical/technical support for photography and videography during official events and field visits are also part of the role, with missions coordinated to avoid academic conflicts. Editorial and operational support includes translating documents between Spanish and English, drafting brief informational texts, assisting with daily operational and logistical tasks within the communications area, and channeling support requests from other departments to promote teamwork. The role emphasizes developing professional skills through these diverse tasks, contributing to the World Food Programme's mission of saving lives and changing lives by effectively positioning, documenting, and disseminating its impact.
Work Experience
The role requires a student in their third or fourth year of graphic design, communications, or a related field. Desired experience includes social media content creation (copywriting, posts, campaigns), excellent writing and spelling, and graphic design proficiency. Candidates should be skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and video/photo editing software (Premier, After Effects, Audition, Lightroom). Strong creative communication, organization, time management, teamwork, and adaptability in a diverse environment are essential.
