Job Purpose
The Logistics Assistant will support the implementation of well-defined standard logistics and supply chain processes to ensure the effective delivery of goods and services. This role involves coordinating with suppliers for local purchases, managing the receipt of dispatch plans, and ensuring timely transportation of food commodities to their destinations. The assistant will also oversee storage capacity, maintain accurate records in WFP's systems, and manage vendor invoicing and fuel transactions. Additionally, the position requires conducting market assessments for logistics service providers and supporting the overall delivery of WFP operations within the Amhara region, ensuring adherence to corporate standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Assistant role at the World Food Programme (WFP) involves implementing well-defined logistics and supply chain processes to ensure the effective delivery of goods and services. Key responsibilities include coordinating with suppliers for local purchase readiness and uplift, managing the dispatch plan from the Country Office, and ensuring timely delivery to destinations. This role requires ensuring sufficient storage capacity at transit hubs, accurately recording dispatches in LESS, and issuing online waybills. The assistant will also oversee bag marking before uplifting, gather route information for dispatches, and coordinate with destination hubs regarding commodity arrival. Additionally, the role involves conducting market assessments to identify potential logistics service providers, supporting the implementation of WFP deliveries and convoys, preparing daily stock uplift reports, and managing vendor invoicing, particularly for fleet truck washing. Oversight of commodity accounting and ensuring adherence to WFP corporate tools and IPSAS standards are crucial. The position also requires ensuring all fuel transactions for WFP fleet trucks are recorded in the Fuel Management System (FMS).
Work Experience
Requires at least five years of progressively responsible work experience in Logistics/warehousing, specifically within emergency operations.
