Organizational Context

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives and building a pathway to peace and prosperity. WFP assists Sahrawi Refugees in Algeria, providing in-kind assistance, school meals, and livelihood projects. The Research, Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) unit plays a crucial role in generating evidence to inform WFP's programming.

Job Purpose

The Programme Associate (VAM Associate) will provide specialized technical and analytical support within the RAM unit, ensuring data-driven decision-making and performance monitoring. This role is crucial for informing WFP's programming by supporting vulnerability, food security, and nutrition assessments. The associate will contribute to developing information products, managing datasets, and ensuring data quality. They will prepare analytical outputs, support coordinated data collection, and provide technical guidance to field teams and counterparts, ultimately strengthening capacities in assessments and data analysis to meet food assistance needs effectively.

Responsibilities

The Programme Associate (VAM Associate) will support the World Food Programme's Research, Assessment, and Monitoring (RAM) unit by providing specialized technical and analytical support for data-driven decision-making. Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of vulnerability, food security, and nutrition assessments using statistical software like SPSS, STATA, or R, and contributing to the design of assessment tools and systems. The role involves developing information products such as dashboards and price bulletins, and managing, cleaning, and analyzing spatial and non-spatial datasets related to food security and socio-economic conditions. Maintaining and enhancing databases, ensuring data quality, and providing technical support to WFP staff and government counterparts are also crucial. The associate will prepare analytical outputs like reports and maps using GIS and Power BI, monitor data collection processes, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders for coordinated monitoring and reporting. Additionally, the role supports emergency preparedness, rapid assessments during crises, and capacity-building initiatives for local stakeholders. The position requires strong data analysis, visualization, and database management skills, with experience in a humanitarian context being advantageous.

Work Experience

Requires at least 6 years of progressive work experience in food security and nutrition, focusing on data collection, analysis, and reporting. Must demonstrate proficiency in statistical tools like SPSS, STATA, R, and GIS for food security analysis and mapping. Practical expertise gained through participation in multiple assessments is also necessary.
