Job Purpose
The Senior Social Protection Associate (SC 07) will support the implementation of initiatives aimed at strengthening social protection systems, enhancing their effectiveness, coverage, and responsiveness. This role contributes technically to the design, implementation, and monitoring of social protection projects, ensuring alignment with national priorities, WFP's Country Strategic Plan, and global Sustainable Development Goals. The position involves supporting programmatic and operational management of projects, capacity building for government institutions, and technical analysis of social protection systems, particularly in relation to disaster preparedness and risk financing. The associate will also contribute to inter-agency coordination, reporting, and resource mobilization efforts, ensuring social protection components are integrated into WFP's emergency response and planning.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Social Protection Program Associate to support the implementation of social protection initiatives. This role involves contributing technically to the design, implementation, and monitoring of projects, ensuring alignment with national policies, WFP's Country Strategic Plan, and Sustainable Development Goals. Key responsibilities include strengthening government capacities in social protection and disaster risk financing, analyzing social protection systems' responsiveness to shocks, and preparing technical reports and analytical documents. The Associate will also facilitate inter-institutional coordination among government entities, UN agencies, and partners to promote integrated approaches between social protection, disaster risk management, and humanitarian response. This includes monitoring cash-based transfers and response mechanisms, and systematizing relevant information for programmatic decision-making. The role also entails contributing to capacity building for WFP staff and partners, supporting emergency preparedness integration, and leading WFP's strategic actions in adaptive social protection and disaster risk financing. Financial management of allocated funds, reporting to donors, and coordinating project activities to enhance social protection and disaster risk management systems are also crucial. The Associate will translate corporate policies into country-level practices, formulate strategic plans, manage a portfolio of social protection programs, and ensure the effective use of financial resources. Identifying strategic entry points for WFP support, advising on aligning ongoing activities with national priorities, and establishing strategic partnerships are essential. The role also involves promoting WFP's leadership in social protection forums, contributing to resource mobilization efforts, and managing the dissemination of analytical reports and knowledge products. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of six years of professional experience in social protection or related areas, with experience in project management or coordination being advantageous. Fluency in Spanish and advanced English proficiency are required.
