Job Purpose

The Storekeeper/Assistant Storekeeper will be responsible for managing the receipt, dispatch, and verification of commodities to ensure optimal warehouse operations and minimize losses. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality of stored goods and upholding WFP's stringent warehouse standards and guidelines. Key accountabilities include accurate documentation, inventory checks, commodity inspection, and implementing measures to safeguard food and non-food items. The position also involves monitoring warehouse conditions, space planning, and providing on-the-job training to warehouse staff, contributing to efficient logistics and the overall mission of delivering effective humanitarian assistance.

Responsibilities

The Storekeeper/Assistant Storekeeper is primarily responsible for managing the receipt and dispatch of commodities, including transhipment, ensuring accuracy in physical counts and adherence to quality standards against official documentation. This involves preparing, verifying, and signing off all necessary warehouse and transport documents, as well as maintaining confidential files and precise transaction records to facilitate immediate reporting on commodity movements in line with corporate requirements. A key aspect of the role is conducting daily warehouse closing reconciliations and accurate inventory checks to support robust internal control systems. The incumbent performs daily inspections, reporting on the quantity and quality of commodities handled, and is tasked with promptly detecting and analyzing reasons for stock discrepancies or damages. This includes investigating missing quantities and preparing comprehensive warehouse loss reports with recommended solutions to aid informed decision-making. Furthermore, the role involves implementing appropriate measures to safeguard both food and non-food commodities, ensuring quality control through standard preventive measures. Monitoring the condition of the warehouse and its contents is crucial, requiring the Storekeeper to take actions that support efficient space-planning and organized storage according to WFP standards. Finally, the position includes providing guidance and on-the-job training to warehouse staff to foster their development and high performance, alongside performing other related duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 4 years of experience in logistics, warehouse operations, or a related field. Experience with logistics databases, managing food and non-food inventories, and processing invoices is also beneficial.
