Job Purpose
The Assistant Logistique (Port Operations) will play a crucial role in supporting WFP Haiti's complex port operations in Port-au-Prince. This position is essential for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of humanitarian aid, primarily food and non-food items, through the port. The role involves coordinating with shipping agents, port authorities, and customs officials to facilitate cargo reception, unloading, and clearance. Key responsibilities include managing documentation, liaising with customs for smooth clearance, monitoring cargo, and reporting on operational status and challenges. The Assistant Logistique will contribute to optimizing procedures and ensuring compliance with national regulations, ultimately supporting WFP's mission to reach vulnerable populations with vital assistance.
Responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive support for port operations, focusing on efficient cargo handling and humanitarian aid delivery. Key responsibilities include meticulous organization, preparation, and verification of transport and customs documentation to ensure compliance and timely submission. This position requires close collaboration with shipping agents and port authorities to streamline loading and unloading processes, ensuring operational fluidity. Facilitating customs clearance procedures in coordination with relevant authorities and adhering to national regulations are crucial. The role also entails diligent cargo tracking, liaising with supervision companies and service providers to safeguard interests, report losses or damages, and manage inspections and disputes. Regular operational reporting to the Logistics Officer on cargo status, provider performance, and encountered challenges is essential. Furthermore, the position contributes to continuous improvement of procedures, documentation, and reporting, alongside evaluating suppliers. Maintaining open communication with stakeholders and conducting field visits are vital for smooth operations, along with performing other related logistics tasks as needed.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of experience in port operations, maritime shipping, or customs clearance specifically within Haiti.
