Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant (School Feeding) will provide essential support to WFP's school feeding program in Mekelle, Ethiopia, under the guidance of the Programme Policy Officer. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective implementation of school meal programs, which are vital for increasing student enrollment, addressing nutritional gaps, and serving as a social safety net. The assistant will contribute to positive outcomes in health, nutrition, and education, promoting gender equality and human capital development. Key responsibilities include preparing distribution plans, supporting monitoring activities, participating in assessments, facilitating communication with stakeholders, contributing to reporting, and ensuring the integration of protection and gender perspectives. The role also involves close collaboration with education offices and partners for timely reporting and data entry into the COMET platform.
Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant (School Feeding) is responsible for preparing and verifying monthly distribution plans for food and non-food items, ensuring their timely movement and delivery. This role involves supporting follow-up actions based on monitoring, review, and evaluation findings, and participating in school assessments and feeding missions to aid program implementation. A key responsibility is collaborating with the WFP logistics team to foster effective communication among beneficiaries, including school leaders, parent committees, pupil representatives, and retailers. The assistant will contribute to various program reports, detailing activities and outcomes, and participate in Education Cluster coordination meetings, sharing relevant updates. Furthermore, the role emphasizes promoting the integration of protection and gender perspectives to ensure equitable participation of all students. Close collaboration with education offices and implementing partners is required for the timely submission, review, and entry of reports into the COMET platform. The assistant will also perform additional tasks as needed to support the program's objectives.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field. A background and interest in international humanitarian development are essential, along with working knowledge in Nutrition, Education, and Social Protection/Social Assistance.
