Job Purpose
The Assistant Storekeeper will be responsible for managing the receipt, dispatch, and verification of commodities to ensure optimal warehouse operations and minimize losses. This role supports best storage management practices in compliance with WFP warehouse standards and established guidelines. Key duties include accurately documenting commodity movements, preparing and verifying warehouse documents, conducting inventory checks, and reporting on commodity quantities and quality. The position also involves implementing measures to safeguard commodities, monitoring warehouse conditions for efficient space utilization, and maintaining organized storage, all while adhering to WFP procedures and supervisor directives.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Storekeeper role at the World Food Programme (WFP) focuses on ensuring efficient warehouse operations and minimizing commodity losses. Key responsibilities include accurately receiving, dispatching, and verifying commodities against official documentation, ensuring physical counts and quality align with WFP standards. This involves preparing and maintaining warehouse and transport documents, along with accurate transaction records for timely reporting of commodity movements. The role also entails supporting daily warehouse closing reconciliations and inventory checks, conducting daily inspections of commodity quantity and quality, and reporting findings to the supervisor. Safeguarding food and non-food commodities through appropriate measures and quality control is crucial. Additionally, the Assistant Storekeeper will monitor warehouse conditions and commodity storage to optimize space utilization and organization, adhering to WFP warehouse standards. The position requires supporting the implementation of established procedures and authorized actions, and performing other related duties as assigned by the activity manager. This role is vital for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of WFP's supply chain operations in emergency and development contexts.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in inventory management and storekeeping. Additional experience in monitoring logistics operations, supporting warehouse and inventory management, data entry, and report extraction is beneficial. Proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications, with SAP experience being an advantage, is also noted.
