Organizational Context

These Programme Associate (Nutrition) positions are based in Regional Offices, Country Offices, or Area/Field Offices, reporting to a Programme Policy Officer or Head of Field Office. At this G6 level, job holders are expected to demonstrate initiative and responsibility, independently handling queries with general guidance and using judgment for daily operational challenges. They will manage resources and coach support staff.

Job Purpose

The Programme Associate (Nutrition) will provide specialized support and technical analysis for policy and programme activities, ensuring effective food assistance delivery. This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of nutrition-related activities, ensuring alignment with WFP policies and guidelines. The associate will prepare reports, analyze data on resource utilization and programme status, and maintain accurate data recording for food security and vulnerability assessments. They will also coordinate with internal and external partners, including local organizations and government institutions, to conduct food security analyses and ensure efficient assistance delivery. Furthermore, the role includes supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners, resolving operational queries, and overseeing support staff to meet objectives. A key aspect involves contributing to the operationalization of WFP's nutrition strategy in Madagascar and supporting evidence generation through participation in surveys and analyses.

Responsibilities

The Programme Associate - Nutrition role involves providing specialized support and technical analysis for policy and program activities, ensuring they effectively meet food assistance needs. Key responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of various activities, offering project management support to ensure targets are met according to WFP policies, and preparing reports and data analysis on aspects like food assistance needs and program performance. The role also requires accurate data recording, liaising with internal and external counterparts for collaboration and monitoring, and coordinating with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government institutions for food security analysis and efficient food assistance delivery. Additionally, the associate will support capacity building for WFP staff, partners, and government, act as a point of contact for operational queries, and oversee support staff. Emergency preparedness is also a crucial aspect, ensuring WFP can respond quickly to crises. The position requires supporting the operationalization of nutrition strategies, contributing to program reports, developing partnership agreements, and establishing monitoring and learning systems. This includes participating in nutrition surveys and analyses to generate evidence for informed decision-making.

Work Experience

Requires at least six years of relevant experience in the specified field. Additionally, one or more years of postgraduate professional experience in humanitarian work, nutrition development, or a related area is desired. Experience in designing and implementing technical nutrition programs, working with technical teams, contributing to program implementation, and observing or assisting with policy discussions is also beneficial.
