Job Purpose
The Security Assistant G5 in Gode, Ethiopia, is responsible for performing a range of specialized security operations, including monitoring and maintaining security equipment. This role involves assisting in the review of security threats and risks, compiling accurate reports, and providing basic analyses to support decision-making. The incumbent will liaise with local authorities and other actors to ensure safe program delivery and mitigate risks. Key responsibilities include assisting in planning and conducting field missions, performing security assessments, preparing reports with risk mitigation recommendations, and contributing to security risk management advice and the implementation of mitigating measures. The position also supports the management and maintenance of security equipment and ensures adherence to access control procedures, contributing to a safe and secure environment for WFP operations and staff.
Responsibilities
The Security Assistant role involves a range of specialized responsibilities within WFP's security operations. Key duties include monitoring and maintaining security equipment, and assisting in the review of security threats and risks. This involves compiling accurate reports on trends that could impact WFP operations, providing basic analyses using information management tools, and ensuring information is readily available to stakeholders. The role requires liaising with local authorities, communities, and other UN/NGO security staff to facilitate safe program delivery and mitigate risks. Planning and conducting field missions, tracking staff, and performing regular security assessments are also crucial. The assistant will prepare assessment reports with risk mitigation recommendations and advise on security risk management matters in compliance with the UN Security Management System. Implementation of security risk mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS), is essential. The role also involves managing and maintaining security equipment, ensuring access control procedures are followed, contributing to emergency planning, and identifying security training needs. Additionally, the Security Assistant will supervise and provide on-the-job training to junior staff.
