Job Purpose
The WFP Volunteer – Finance will support the Finance Unit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by efficiently processing, tracking, and reconciling Value Added Tax (VAT) refund claims. This role is crucial for ensuring timely recovery of VAT refunds in compliance with Tanzanian government procedures and WFP policies. The volunteer will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), maintain an organized tracking system, and facilitate the submission of claims. By ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely follow-up, this position strengthens financial accountability and operational efficiency, contributing directly to WFP's ability to allocate resources effectively for its humanitarian operations.
Responsibilities
The WFP Volunteer will be responsible for supporting the Finance Unit in the efficient processing, tracking, and reconciliation of Value Added Tax (VAT) refund claims. This involves monitoring and recording VAT claims, ensuring their completeness, accuracy, and timely reconciliation. The role requires retrieving and compiling monthly tax invoices and supporting documents, and preparing VAT claim forms for submission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). A key responsibility is maintaining an organized tracking system for VAT claims, monitoring their status, timelines, and outstanding amounts. The volunteer will conduct regular follow-ups with MoFA to obtain clearance documentation and facilitate the submission of cleared claims to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), tracking refund progress. Additionally, the position involves assisting in compliance with WFP financial procedures and donor requirements related to VAT recovery, supporting the reconciliation of VAT receivables, and providing updates for financial reporting. Identifying and escalating any delays, discrepancies, or bottlenecks in the VAT process is also crucial. The role may also involve providing general administrative and finance support and contributing recommendations for improving VAT Standard Operating Procedures.
Work Experience
The role requires strengthening skills in financial reporting, compliance, and reconciliation. Additionally, candidates should have exposure to UNWFP financial systems and procedures. Prior experience in finance, accounting, or administrative roles is considered an advantage.
