Job Purpose
The Finance Associate G6 will provide essential finance, budget, and administration support services to ensure the efficient functioning of financial operations and inform decision-making. This role involves ensuring compliance with WFP financial policies, rules, and regulations, and supporting the development and implementation of financial procedures and systems. The Associate will monitor daily cash positions, optimize liquidity, and manage timely processing of payments and invoices. Key responsibilities include contributing to budget preparation and monitoring, analyzing expenditure, and generating financial reports. The position also entails coordinating with other teams to ensure efficient service delivery, allocating tasks, and providing on-the-job training to support staff in financial resource management, while remaining prepared for immediate emergency response needs.
Responsibilities
The Finance Associate role at the World Food Programme (WFP) involves providing crucial finance, budget, and administration support to ensure the efficient operation of support services and inform decision-making. Key responsibilities include offering procedural and technical guidance to staff, ensuring adherence to WFP's financial policies, rules, and regulations. The associate will support the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, and assist in setting up proper accounting systems and cash controls. A significant part of the role involves monitoring daily cash positions to optimize surplus cash and maximize investment returns. This includes processing payments to internal staff and external suppliers accurately and in a timely manner, while also monitoring account balances to prevent overdrafts. The associate will contribute to budget preparation, implementation, and monitoring, forecasting future funding needs. They will also coordinate with other teams to ensure seamless financial and administrative service delivery. Furthermore, the role requires monitoring and analyzing general ledger accounts, compiling data for financial reports, and providing guidance and training to support staff on financial resource management. The position also entails being on standby for emergency preparedness and meeting immediate emergency requirements.
Work Experience
Requires six or more years of progressively responsible work experience within the relevant business stream, including general administrative work.
