Job Purpose
The Access Assistant G4 will support the Gonaives office in implementing access and security strategies, ensuring WFP can effectively deliver assistance in Haiti's challenging and volatile environment. This role is crucial for maintaining a coordinated and predictable approach to humanitarian access, enabling WFP to reach vulnerable populations safely. The incumbent will contribute to refining operational modalities, supporting access negotiation tactics, and collecting vital information to inform decision-making. They will also engage with various stakeholders, including humanitarian actors, local authorities, and security forces, to facilitate safe operations and expand WFP's reach. This position requires proactive information gathering, analysis of the humanitarian context, and close coordination with security teams to mitigate risks and ensure the continuity of WFP's life-saving programs.
Responsibilities
The Humanitarian Access Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the World Food Programme (WFP) can effectively deliver aid in complex and challenging environments, particularly in Haiti where security has deteriorated significantly due to gang violence. This position supports the Gonaives sub-office by implementing access and security strategies, enabling WFP to reach vulnerable populations. Key responsibilities include refining operational modalities to overcome access constraints, supporting the development of access and negotiation tactics, and collecting and analyzing contextual information from various stakeholders. The assistant will also engage in humanitarian coordination, liaising with OCHA, other agencies, and participating in Access Working Group meetings. A significant part of the role involves contributing to local security analysis, providing real-time critical information, and assessing operational routes and areas in coordination with the security team. This includes fostering close relationships with local authorities, humanitarian actors, and security agencies like the Haitian National Police to ensure staff safety, protect facilities, and build community trust. The ultimate goal is to secure and expand WFP operations by negotiating with law enforcement, community leaders, and other key parties, ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches those in need under acceptable security conditions for both personnel and beneficiaries.
Work Experience
Requires at least 4 years of relevant experience in humanitarian access, security management, and community relations in conflict-affected areas.
