Job Purpose

The Data Science Volunteer will support the Data & AI team within WFP's Technology Division, contributing to global AI initiatives. This role involves hands-on experience in data preparation, exploratory analysis, and quality checks for AI projects. The volunteer will assist in developing, testing, and evaluating Python-based machine learning workflows, researching relevant AI techniques, and preparing technical documentation. Responsibilities

The Data Science Volunteer role at the World Food Programme (WFP) involves supporting global AI initiatives within the Data & AI team. Responsibilities include preparing and analyzing data for AI projects, developing and testing Python-based machine learning workflows, and researching relevant AI techniques. The intern will also assist in documenting methods and findings, preparing clear technical summaries and presentations, and collaborating with team members. This role offers hands-on experience in applied AI and machine learning, contributing to enterprise solutions with organizational impact. The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Data Scientist, participating in team meetings and completing assigned tasks. Deliverables include completed analytical or technical tasks, such as code or analysis outputs, and an end-of-internship presentation or summary detailing work, learnings, and recommendations. This unpaid, 10-week volunteer position requires current enrollment in an undergraduate program in a quantitative field like Computer Science or Data Science, proficiency in Python, strong analytical skills, and fluency in English.

Work Experience

This role requires current enrollment in an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Essential skills include a working knowledge of Python, a general understanding of data science and machine learning techniques, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity for quick learning, clear communication, and collaborative teamwork. Fluency in English is mandatory.
