Job Purpose

The Data Analyst Volunteer will support the Data & AI team within WFP's Technology Division by contributing to global AI and analytics projects. This role involves practical experience in data cleaning, transformation, modelling, and visualization using real-world datasets. The volunteer will assist in preparing data for reporting and decision-making, and support the development of Tableau dashboards and other data products. Under the guidance of the Lead Data Scientist, the intern will help identify trends and patterns, communicate key findings through visualizations, and document analytical processes, ultimately contributing to data-driven insights for WFP's operations.

Responsibilities

The Data Analyst Volunteer role at the World Food Programme (WFP) involves supporting the Data & AI team in various data-related tasks for global AI and analytics projects. Key responsibilities include cleaning, validating, and organizing datasets to ensure accuracy and readiness for analysis and reporting. The intern will assist with data transformation processes and contribute to analytical modeling and exploratory analysis to uncover trends and insights relevant to operational needs. A significant part of the role involves developing and updating data visualizations and dashboards, primarily using Tableau, to effectively communicate findings. Collaboration with team members and the Lead Data Scientist is essential, along with preparing documentation for analytical methods and outputs. The internship aims to provide practical experience in handling real-world datasets and contributing to data-driven decision-making within a leading humanitarian organization. Deliverables include cleaned datasets, analytical outputs, and at least one Tableau dashboard or presentation summarizing the work accomplished.

Work Experience

The role requires hands-on experience with Tableau and a strong understanding of data cleaning, transformation, modeling, and visualization principles. Working knowledge of Python is preferred. Essential skills include strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to clearly communicate insights.
