Job Purpose
The WFP Volunteer will support the Regional Resilience & Climate Team in MENAEERO by conducting desk-based research and analysis on climate resilience, food systems, and related policy frameworks. This role involves monitoring regional and global policy processes, synthesizing emerging trends, and preparing high-quality background materials to inform internal strategy development and coordination with Country Offices. The volunteer will contribute to the preparation of non-sensitive briefing notes, background papers, and internal knowledge materials, assisting in drafting and editing presentations and concept framing documents. The assignment aims to strengthen the team's capacity by providing structured research and synthesis to inform ongoing policy and planning processes, ultimately supporting WFP's mission in addressing climate change impacts and promoting sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) seeks a volunteer to support its Regional Resilience & Climate Team in Cairo, Egypt. This role involves conducting desk-based research and analysis on climate resilience, food systems, and sustainable development agendas within the MENA region. The volunteer will monitor regional and global policy processes, analyze emerging trends, and synthesize information to inform internal strategy development and partner engagement. Key responsibilities include researching national and regional policy developments, preparing non-sensitive briefing notes and background papers, tracking policy processes, and compiling summary notes. The volunteer will also assist in drafting and editing presentations and concept framing documents for internal use, and organizing research materials. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to WFP's mission of saving lives and changing lives by building a pathway to peace, stability, and prosperity, particularly for those affected by conflict, disasters, and climate change. The role requires strong research, writing, and synthesis skills, proficiency in MS Office, and excellent English communication. Arabic language skills are considered an asset. This is an unpaid, three-month volunteer contract for individuals aged 18 and above.
Work Experience
The role requires a background in political science, international relations, development studies, economics, or related fields. Strong research, writing, and synthesis skills are essential, along with the ability to produce clear and concise briefing materials. Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint is necessary. Excellent written and spoken English is required, and knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset.
