Organizational Context
These positions are based in WFP’s Field Offices in Fort Dauphin and Tulear, Madagascar, reporting to the Head of Field Office with technical supervision from the Head of Logistics. Job holders will operate with a high degree of independence, managing junior staff to ensure logistics operations and project objectives are met. They will be involved in daily activities and analytical work, potentially focusing on specific logistics areas or managing teams to implement supply chain strategies.
Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will contribute to the daily planning and coordination of WFP's logistics operations, ensuring cost-effective service delivery by contracted external organizations and the achievement of set objectives. This role involves contributing to the development of logistics plans and processes, supporting logistics projects, and analyzing data to recommend improvements for local operations. The officer will conduct financial analysis, manage operational aspects of the supply chain including procurement and customs clearance, and provide technical support to other units, especially during emergency responses. Additionally, the role includes guiding junior staff, preparing accurate reports with KPIs, supporting capacity building for staff and partners, fostering relationships with logistics colleagues, and participating in emergency preparedness and process reviews to enhance daily efficiencies.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Officer role at WFP involves contributing to the daily planning and coordination of logistics operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and achievement of objectives. The role requires collecting and analyzing data to recommend improvements for local logistics operations, conducting financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize fund utilization, and managing operational aspects of the supply chain, such as procurement, shipping, and customs clearance. Additionally, the officer will provide technical support to other units, guide junior staff, and contribute to accurate reporting with Key Performance Indicators. Preparedness for emergency logistics, including capacity assessments, is crucial. The position also involves building relationships with logistics colleagues for an integrated approach to food assistance and participating in process reviews to enhance daily efficiencies. The role may also require acting in an emergency response capacity as needed.
Work Experience
Requires an Advanced university degree and at least three years of relevant professional experience.
