Organizational Context
These roles are located across Regional, Country, Area, and Field Offices, reporting to a Management Services Officer. Incumbents operate various land vehicles, including light vehicles, trucks, and vans, and may also be assigned to watercraft. The position primarily involves driving, with potential for basic administrative support in the office or stores, ensuring efficient operational flow within WFP's diverse field presence.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the efficient, safe, and reliable transportation of authorized personnel and/or essential commodities for the World Food Programme. This involves operating various land vehicles, and potentially watercraft, while strictly adhering to UN safety and security regulations and maintaining meticulous vehicle records. The incumbent will facilitate smooth travel for WFP officials and visitors, including providing airport assistance and basic translation services, thereby ensuring seamless operational continuity. Beyond core driving duties, the role encompasses critical responsibilities for vehicle maintenance, cleanliness, and timely reporting of any mechanical issues, ensuring optimal operational readiness and cost-efficiency. Furthermore, this position provides essential administrative support, such as managing office supplies, handling deliveries, and processing payments, contributing significantly to the overall smooth functioning of WFP's diverse field operations. This role is pivotal in supporting WFP's humanitarian mission by ensuring reliable mobility and robust logistical support in challenging environments.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This involves driving light vehicles, trucks, vans, or motorcycles, and potentially operating watercraft. Key duties include transporting individuals and items according to authorized routes and safety regulations, assisting official personnel and visitors with airport arrivals, including basic visa and customs formalities. Accurate maintenance of vehicle logbooks and daily reporting on the vehicle's mechanical status are crucial for efficient use and cost-effectiveness. Drivers must ensure their assigned vehicle is kept clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with necessary authorizations and supplies, promptly reporting any mechanical issues. In case of accidents or field delivery issues, drivers must follow established procedures and report immediately to their supervisor. Beyond driving, responsibilities may extend to basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, maintaining stores, and handling mail or bill payments, providing essential administrative support.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of work experience as a Driver, preferably with an international organization, embassy, or UN system, and a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience driving various vehicle types (vans, trucks, etc.) is necessary. Defensive driving experience is desirable.
