Job Purpose
The Risk and Compliance Associate in Gaza will play a crucial role in embedding risk management practices within WFP's operations. Reporting to the Head of Area Office and functionally supported by the Country Office Risk Management Unit, this position is responsible for providing real-time, onsite risk management support. The Associate will contribute to establishing and enhancing risk management activities, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and optimizing resource utilization. This involves monitoring risk indicators, updating risk registers, supporting risk assessments, developing mitigation actions, and contributing to the effectiveness of internal controls. The role also entails promoting anti-fraud and anti-corruption policies, managing third-party risks, and supporting audit processes, ultimately enabling the operation to achieve maximum impact for the people WFP serves in a complex humanitarian context.
Responsibilities
The Risk Associate position within the World Food Programme (WFP) in Gaza focuses on embedding and enhancing risk management activities to ensure operational effectiveness and resource optimization. This role involves supporting the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across WFP's operations in Palestine, including East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. The Associate will monitor key risk indicators, update risk registers, and track the implementation of mitigation actions. They will also assist managers in conducting risk assessments, evaluating internal controls, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for risk and accountability processes. A significant part of the role includes promoting adherence to anti-fraud and anti-corruption policies, managing third-party risks by overseeing partners and suppliers, and supporting audit processes. The position requires contributing to training initiatives to enhance risk management understanding among colleagues and partners. The ultimate goal is to enable WFP Palestine to manage risks systematically, thereby maximizing the impact of its humanitarian and development efforts for the people it serves, especially in the context of a protracted and complex crisis. The role emphasizes a supportive and advisory capacity to WFP teams, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and compliance.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in risk management, audit, compliance, monitoring, or program/project management. A background and interest in international humanitarian or development sectors are also needed. Experience should include contributing to risk management activities, participating in risk analysis and mitigation, conducting monitoring and reporting, and assessing internal controls. Familiarity with modern enterprise risk management frameworks is preferred.
