Job Purpose
The Field Monitoring Assistant (FMA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective delivery of WFP's assistance packages by conducting vital monitoring activities in the field. Under the guidance of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, the FMA will verify the planned movements and distribution of food and non-food items, ensuring they meet WFP standards for quantity and quality. This role involves maintaining accurate records, contributing to M&E plans, and gathering feedback from cooperating partners and internal counterparts to support programme reviews and enhance service delivery. The FMA will also assist in capacity building for partners on WFP operational practices and monitoring tools, and prepare field mission reports. This position is essential for informing decision-making and achieving WFP's programmatic objectives and Minimum Monitoring Requirements.
Responsibilities
The Field Monitoring Assistant (FMA) plays a crucial role in supporting the World Food Programme's (WFP) mission by conducting essential monitoring activities in the field. The primary responsibility is to verify the planned movements and distribution of both food and non-food items, meticulously reporting any issues, incidents, or risks encountered. This includes performing detailed food basket monitoring to ensure that the quantity and quality of distributed assistance align with WFP's established standards. The FMA is tasked with maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of monitoring information and documentation, which is vital for the effective delivery and distribution of WFP's aid. Additionally, the role involves actively participating in the development of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plans for sub-offices, contributing to the achievement of expected results and WFP's Minimum Monitoring Requirements. The FMA will also collate WFP assistance data to support programme reviews and inform decision-making, gather feedback from cooperating partners and internal counterparts to enhance services, and assist in updating M&E tools. Supporting issue escalation, management, and resolution processes, as well as contributing to capacity-building initiatives for partners on WFP operational practices, are also key duties. The FMA prepares field mission reports and follows emergency response procedures when necessary.
Work Experience
The role requires a minimum of four years of progressively responsible work experience in analyzing and reporting on program output and outcome data. A general knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems is also desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and understanding of work routines for minimal supervision are necessary. Fluency in English and Afarigna is required.
