Job Purpose
The IT Consultant will provide senior technical and coordination expertise to advance WFP's global network services. This role involves leading the design, optimization, deployment, and lifecycle management of edge devices in field offices, ensuring the scalability, performance, and resilience of the SD-WAN infrastructure. The consultant will act as a key technical advisor, contributing to strategic initiatives, governance, and continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities include overseeing external consultants and service desk teams, leading network infrastructure upgrades and decommissioning of legacy systems, and driving SD-WAN enhancements. The position also requires acting as a liaison with field IT officers, mentoring on network devices and monitoring tools, and collaborating with cybersecurity teams to enforce policies. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to network architecture definition, capacity planning, and documentation framework development, ensuring robust and efficient network operations across WFP's global presence.
Responsibilities
The IT Consultant will play a crucial senior technical and coordination role in advancing the World Food Programme's global network services. Key responsibilities include leading the design, optimization, deployment, and lifecycle management of edge devices in field offices, ensuring the scalability, performance, and resilience of the SD-WAN infrastructure. This role involves overseeing external consultants and Service Desk teams during network upgrades, leading the global decommissioning of legacy network infrastructure, and providing technical leadership for new network deployments and SD-WAN upgrades. The consultant will drive SD-WAN configuration optimization, manage day-to-day operations and ticketing, and serve as a senior liaison with field IT officers. Mentoring on firewalls, network devices, and monitoring tools, ensuring monitoring governance, and collaborating with the cybersecurity team on policy enforcement are also vital. Additionally, the consultant will support centralized authentication and NAC rollout, contribute to network architecture and requirements, enhance capacity planning, and maintain an SD-WAN lab environment. This includes leading testing in constrained environments and overseeing logistics for global device deployments. A significant aspect of the role involves developing a structured documentation framework, defining and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensuring continuous improvement of technical documentation.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT network administration, support, and services. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
