The incumbent will report to the Logistics Officer responsible for workshop activities and may supervise other mechanics, ensuring efficient vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Job Purpose
The Mechanic G4 will be responsible for performing maintenance and repair work on WFP's vehicles, generators, and other transport equipment. This role involves diagnosing mechanical and electronic issues, conducting routine and ad-hoc repairs according to manufacturer standards and WFP safety procedures, and ensuring all equipment is in good working condition. The incumbent will also manage workshop tools and spare parts, contribute to work planning, and provide technical advice to drivers and junior mechanics. This position requires physical fitness for handling heavy loads and adherence to safety protocols, ensuring the operational readiness of WFP's fleet in Jérémie, Haiti.
Responsibilities
The Auto Mechanic/Electrician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of light and heavy vehicles, as well as generators for the World Food Programme (WFP). This role involves supervising equipment, including tracking tools and spare parts issued from the store. The mechanic contributes to workshop planning and organization to ensure efficient and timely service delivery. They perform periodic and ad-hoc maintenance and repairs on vehicles and other WFP equipment, adhering to manufacturer standards, schedules, and safety procedures. Regular diagnostic checks using computerized tools are conducted to assess mechanical condition and functionality, with recommendations made for cost-effective repairs that maintain safety and technical standards. The mechanic is also tasked with recovering and repairing broken-down transport or equipment, including vehicles damaged during field missions, using appropriate techniques to minimize further damage and ensure operational safety. They install and maintain advanced onboard equipment like VHF radios and satellite tracking systems, and provide technical advice to drivers and training to other mechanics. Accurate and timely reporting of mechanical work performed, including any defects found, is crucial for effective planning and decision-making. Maintaining tools and repair equipment in good condition and keeping an inventory are also key responsibilities, alongside occasional field missions as required by their duties.
Work Experience
Requires at least four years of progressive experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles, light vehicles, other means of transport, power generators, and other equipment.
