Job Purpose
The Regional Nurse will be instrumental in managing staff health and safety across the Latin America and Caribbean region. This role is crucial for ensuring that WFP staff and their dependents receive high-quality, coordinated medical support and access to comprehensive wellness programs. Key responsibilities include managing medical information, operationalizing a travel clinic, advising on vaccinations, and providing destination-specific health advice. The nurse will also engage in occupational safety and health initiatives, review emergency response protocols, and conduct health training and awareness programs. This position supports the Wellness Unit's objectives by promoting preventive medical services and ensuring the well-being of WFP personnel in the region.
Responsibilities
The Regional Nurse will be responsible for supporting staff health and safety across the Latin America and Caribbean region. This includes managing medical information for staff and their dependents, ensuring essential health details are highlighted and integrated into digital files. The role involves operationalizing a travel clinic for consultations, preparing travel health kits, and providing destination-specific health advice. Key duties include advising on vaccination requirements, conducting vaccination campaigns, and maintaining strict confidentiality of medical information. The nurse will also manage client reception, arrange referrals, visit hospitalized patients in Panama, and handle medical-administrative inquiries. Ensuring adequate stocks of personal protective equipment and servicing medical supplies are also crucial. Furthermore, the position requires active participation in the Occupational Safety and Health Committee to evaluate workplace risks and promote safety. Responsibilities extend to reviewing emergency response protocols, reporting on health statistics, and conducting health training and awareness programs. Preventive medical services, such as cancer screenings and cardiovascular risk assessments, will also be provided to staff.
Work Experience
Requires 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including travel medicine, tropical and infectious diseases. Experience as an instructor/trainer for patient education classes (e.g., First Aid, BLS) and in outbreak response/emergencies is also necessary.
