Job Purpose

The Regional Nurse G5 will be instrumental in supporting the Regional Medical Office by managing staff health and safety across the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. This role is crucial for ensuring that WFP staff and their dependents receive coordinated, high-quality medical support and access to comprehensive wellness programs. Key responsibilities include managing medical information, operationalizing the travel clinic, advising on vaccinations, maintaining medical supply stocks, and contributing to occupational safety and health initiatives. The position also involves conducting health training, promoting preventive medical services, and reporting on health statistics, all while upholding strict confidentiality and contributing to the overall well-being of WFP personnel in the region.

Responsibilities

The Regional Nurse will be instrumental in managing staff health and safety across the Latin America and Caribbean region. Key responsibilities include meticulously collecting and reviewing medical information, ensuring its integration into digital files for the Medical Officer. This role involves operationalizing a Travel Clinic, providing consultations, preparing travel health kits, and offering destination-specific health advice. The nurse will also manage vaccination requirements, conduct campaigns, and maintain absolute confidentiality of sensitive medical data. Client reception, referral arrangements, patient visits in Panama, and responding to medical-administrative inquiries are also part of the duties. Furthermore, the position requires ensuring adequate stocks of personal protective equipment and servicing medical supplies. Engagement with the Occupational Safety and Health Committee to evaluate workplace risks and promote safety is crucial. The nurse will also test emergency response protocols, report on health statistics, and conduct comprehensive health training and awareness programs, including preventive medical services like cancer screenings and cardiovascular risk assessments.

Work Experience

Requires 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including travel medicine, tropical and infectious diseases. Experience as an instructor/trainer for patient education classes (e.g., First Aid, BLS) and in outbreak response/emergencies is also necessary.
