Job Purpose
The Economic & Food Security Analyst will conduct a comprehensive analytical study to assess the impact of the Middle East conflict and potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz on food security in Lebanon. This role is crucial for understanding the implications for WFP's operations, program design, and strategic engagement within the country. The analyst will develop a detailed Terms of Reference for the study, coordinate with WFP Headquarters and the Regional Office, and lead the analytical design. Key responsibilities include market and price transmission analysis, assessing household-level food security, and developing scenario-based outlooks. The findings will be translated into actionable recommendations for WFP's programming, operational costs, and advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for developing and leading a deep-dive analytical study to assess the impact of the Middle East conflict and potential Strait of Hormuz disruptions on food security in Lebanon. This involves creating a detailed Terms of Reference, coordinating with WFP Headquarters and Regional Office, and designing the analytical framework. Key tasks include analyzing market and price transmission, assessing household-level food security, vulnerability, and poverty using mVAM and IPC trends, and developing scenario-based outlooks. The consultant will translate findings into actionable implications for WFP's program design, transfer values, targeting, operational costs, and advocacy. High-quality analytical products, such as reports and briefing materials, will be prepared, and technical reviews will be supported. The role requires close collaboration with various WFP stakeholders at country, regional, and global levels to ensure alignment with global frameworks and priorities, ultimately informing WFP's strategic engagement and operational adjustments in response to evolving crises.
Work Experience
Requires at least three years of postgraduate professional experience in a humanitarian context, specifically in food security and market analysis. Alternatively, five years of experience after a first university degree is acceptable. Proficiency in statistical tools like Python, SQL, R, Stata, or SPSS for food security analysis is essential. The role also demands the ability to analyze diverse program issues and statistical information, with practical expertise gained from participating in food security assessments, including design, data collection, and analysis.
