Organizational Context
These positions are within WFP's Regional or Country Offices, Area Offices, and Field Offices. Drivers report to the Management Services Officer or their designate. They are responsible for operating light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, and potentially speed boats, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods while adhering to UN safety and security regulations.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services for authorized personnel and the delivery of various items and commodities. This includes operating light vehicles, trucks, vans, and motorcycles, adhering strictly to routing, UN safety, and security regulations. The role involves meeting and assisting official personnel and visitors, facilitating their arrival and onward travel. A key responsibility is maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, reporting on mechanical status, and ensuring the vehicle is kept clean, well-maintained, and properly equipped. Outside of driving duties, the Driver may provide basic administrative support, such as filing, photocopying, maintaining stores, and handling mail and bill payments, contributing to the overall smooth operation of the office and field activities.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to provide safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and items, adhering strictly to UN safety and security regulations and authorized routes. This includes driving light vehicles, trucks, vans, or motorcycles, and potentially operating speed boats. A key duty involves meeting official personnel and visitors at entry points, assisting with basic visa and customs formalities to ensure a smooth arrival. Accurate maintenance of vehicle logbooks and daily reporting on the vehicle's mechanical status are crucial for efficient use and cost-effectiveness. The role also requires ensuring the assigned vehicle is kept clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies. In case of accidents or problems, immediate reporting to the supervisor is mandatory. Beyond driving, basic administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, maintaining stores, and handling mail or bill payments may be assigned to provide administrative support.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of work experience as a Driver, ideally within an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Experience operating various vehicle types (vans, trucks) is necessary. Defensive driving experience is a plus.
