Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will be responsible for the design, coordination, and continuous optimization of corridor networks serving Southern Africa Country Offices. This role acts as the primary interface between Country Offices, the Global Corridor Operations Service (GCOS), and other regional/global functions. The incumbent will analyze entry points, inland routes, and cross-border nodes to assess performance, identify bottlenecks, and ensure corridor resilience. Key responsibilities include proactive risk identification, facilitating structured coordination mechanisms, supporting prioritization frameworks, and ensuring data quality for performance visibility. The position also contributes to the broader Global Corridors framework, supporting cross-regional initiatives and providing surge support as needed, ensuring corridors are managed as integrated networks for effective humanitarian delivery.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on coordinating and optimizing logistics corridors within Southern Africa. Key responsibilities include acting as the primary liaison for Country Offices (COs) regarding corridor access, priorities, capacity, and risks. This involves facilitating coordination mechanisms like calls and issue tracking to align CO plans and manage interdependencies across the network, ensuring transparency and adherence to prioritization frameworks. The position also contributes to corridor network design by analyzing entry points, routes, and operational configurations, producing analyses to assess performance, identify bottlenecks, and ensure resilience. A critical aspect is proactive risk identification and management, escalating systemic risks through governance channels and tracking mitigation actions. The role interfaces with various functions such as Planning, Optimization, and Security to ensure coherent planning inputs and translates analytical outputs into actionable guidance. Maintaining data quality for corridor performance visibility and supporting the implementation of Global Corridor Operations Service (GCOS) standards are also essential. Furthermore, the role contributes to wider global corridor initiatives, providing cross-regional support and sharing lessons learned to inform global products and standards. Expected outputs include regular coordination updates, network analyses, documented risks, and inputs for performance reporting.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, corridor management, or humanitarian operations. Must have demonstrated experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders across regional or multi-country settings.
