Data Privacy Specialist
Organizational Context
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives and building a pathway to peace and prosperity. This position is based at WFP Headquarters in the Global Privacy Office, reporting to the Director. The role supports the Global Data Protection Officer in strengthening WFP’s global data protection frameworks, AI governance, and oversight of emerging technologies across all WFP offices.
Job Purpose
The Data Privacy Specialist will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and enhancing WFP’s data protection, privacy, and emerging technologies governance frameworks. This involves providing specialized technical guidance on data protection, privacy principles, AI systems, and digital solutions to ensure compliance and foster responsible innovation. The incumbent will support the operationalization of WFP’s Data Protection and Privacy Programme by conducting risk assessments, promoting privacy-by-design principles, and ensuring the responsible use of data and technology across Headquarters, Regional, and Country Offices. This position is key to maintaining WFP's commitment to data privacy and ethical technology adoption in its humanitarian operations.
Responsibilities
The role involves developing, implementing, and operationalizing data protection and privacy policies, governance mechanisms, procedures, and tools across WFP divisions and offices. This includes designing and improving governance frameworks for privacy, AI systems, and digital tools, while conducting legal research on global data protection developments and AI trends. The incumbent will provide expert advice on data protection, privacy, AI, digital solutions, and privacy-enhancing technologies, assessing digital platforms and AI models for privacy compliance and risk mitigation. Key responsibilities include operationalizing the Data Protection and Privacy Program elements like privacy-by-design, PIAs, and incident response, and aligning emerging technologies with WFP’s privacy standards and international best practices. The role also entails coordinating with various offices for consistent adoption of privacy governance, preparing privacy agreements, and developing training and awareness materials on privacy and AI governance. Furthermore, it involves conducting and overseeing Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and AI Risk Assessments.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive professional experience in Data Protection, Privacy, Information Security, and AI Governance. Proven experience in developing and implementing global privacy compliance programs and risk management tools within large organizations, preferably in law/consultancy firms or large public/private sector entities, is essential.
