Job Purpose
The Programme Associate will be based in Matam, Senegal, and will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WFP's activities, with a primary focus on the CRAFT project. This project, funded by Japan, aims to enhance the resilience of smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, in the Matam region against climate change impacts. The role involves closely collaborating with implementing partners to ensure the effective execution of project activities, including agricultural support, access to resources, market linkages, and organizational development for farmer associations. The Programme Associate will also contribute to other WFP activities within the sub-office's operational area, ensuring integrated monitoring, reporting, and the promotion of cross-cutting issues such as gender, inclusion, and nutrition.
Responsibilities
The Program Associate will be based in Matam, Senegal, and will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of various activities within the Matam sub-office's operational area. A primary focus will be on the CRAFT project, funded by Japan, which aims to enhance the resilience of smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, against climate change impacts. This involves supporting agricultural production, access to resources, and market linkages. The role requires close collaboration with implementing partners to ensure the effective execution of project activities, including providing technical and organizational support to farmer associations. The Program Associate will also be involved in monitoring integrated activities, producing progress reports, facilitating business plan development, and establishing connections with school feeding programs and nutrition initiatives. Additionally, the position entails preparing terms of reference, evaluating partner proposals, analyzing technical and financial reports, and advising on partner selection. The role also involves ensuring the integration of cross-cutting dimensions such as gender, inclusion of persons with disabilities, protection, nutrition, and environmental impact into project activities. Regular reporting on assistance distributions, field missions, and participation in local coordination mechanisms are also key responsibilities. The Program Associate will contribute to the overall mission of the World Food Programme in strengthening food security, nutrition, and community resilience.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience in technical and organizational support for small agricultural producers. Additionally, a minimum of two years of experience in planning, managing, and monitoring rural development projects is necessary. Strong analytical and communication skills for complex program-related issues are also expected. Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis is ideal.
