Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will support the Head of Supply Chain in Caracas by collecting, analyzing, and reporting on logistics data to enhance the efficiency of operations. This role involves contributing to the development of logistics plans and processes, supporting day-to-day activities, and recommending improvements for local logistics operations. The Officer will also assist in financial analysis and budget reviews, guide support staff, and contribute to accurate reporting for informed decision-making. Additionally, the position requires supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners, fostering relationships with logistics colleagues, and ensuring preparedness for emergency responses, acting in an assigned emergency response capacity as needed.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Officer role involves contributing to the development and implementation of logistics plans and processes, ensuring adherence to WFP standards and policies. This position supports daily logistics operations and projects, aiming for the efficient delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries. Key responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data to recommend improvements for local logistics operations, conducting financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize fund utilization, and guiding support staff. The role also entails preparing accurate and timely reports to provide a comprehensive view of logistics activities for informed decision-making. Furthermore, the officer will contribute to capacity building for WFP staff and partners, foster relationships with logistics colleagues, and maintain emergency logistics preparedness practices. This includes acting in emergency response capacities as needed. The position requires advanced analytical skills, data interpretation, and the ability to work collaboratively within a humanitarian context, ensuring the effective and timely distribution of essential resources.
Work Experience
The role requires an advanced university degree in a related field, or a first university degree with additional relevant experience and training. Desired experiences include coordinating service provider contracts, arranging supplier deliveries and vessel discharges, evaluating offers, writing proposals, and report writing. Fluency in English and the duty station's language is also necessary.
