Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will provide technical assurance and capacity development to national EPR logisticians, strengthening humanitarian logistics systems, warehousing, and emergency supply chain readiness in the Pacific. This role serves as the primary focal point for the Pacific Logistics Cluster and represents WFP in key humanitarian coordination meetings. Key responsibilities include coaching national staff, conducting skills assessments, and guiding the application of humanitarian logistics standards. The officer will also provide technical expertise to government partners on warehouse design, stock management, and emergency logistics SOPs, supporting the rollout of WFP's Pacific Humanitarian Warehousing Programme. Furthermore, the role involves leading the revitalization of the Pacific Logistics Cluster, coordinating engagement in UN logistics workstreams, and supporting national logistics clusters to ensure government ownership and skills transfer. The officer may also deploy to support government-led emergency response operations, providing operational oversight for surge logistics.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Logistics Officer to strengthen emergency preparedness and response systems in the Pacific, a region highly susceptible to climate-driven disasters. The role involves providing technical assurance to national logisticians, enhancing humanitarian logistics, warehousing, and supply chain readiness. The officer will act as the primary focal point for the Pacific Logistics Cluster and represent WFP in the Pacific Humanitarian Team. Key responsibilities include coaching and developing national EPR logisticians, conducting skills assessments, and guiding them in applying humanitarian logistics standards. The position also requires strengthening national logistics preparedness systems by offering expertise in warehouse design, stock management, SOPs, and pre-positioning, while supporting the rollout of warehouse systems across Pacific Island Countries. Furthermore, the role involves leading the revitalization of the Pacific Logistics Cluster, coordinating engagement in global logistics workstreams, and supporting national logistics clusters to ensure government ownership. The officer may also be deployed to provide operational oversight for emergency response logistics, including warehousing, cargo consolidation, customs, transport, and distribution. This position emphasizes inclusivity, integrating best practices in gender, disability, environment, accountability to affected populations, and nutrition into all logistics operations.
Work Experience
Requires 3-5+ years of humanitarian logistics and supply chain experience, including major emergency operations. Must have proven experience mentoring national staff, demonstrated leadership in cluster coordination and inter-agency humanitarian architecture, and a strong background in government capacity strengthening and partnership management. Experience with warehouse systems, emergency logistics planning, and operational optimization is also needed. Experience in the Pacific region is an asset.
