Organizational Context
These positions are to be filled in regional bureaux, country offices, area offices, and field offices. Post holders report to the Administrative Officer, Logistics Officer or their designate, and operate light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, or any other type of land transport. They may also be assigned to operate speedboats or other types of watercraft. Work may involve providing basic administrative assistance in the office or warehouse.
Job Purpose
To provide efficient and safe transportation services for authorized personnel and/or goods. This involves operating various vehicles, including light vehicles, trucks, vans, and motorcycles, and potentially watercraft. The role requires adherence to UN security regulations and efficient vehicle operation, including daily mechanical checks and maintenance. Additionally, the position may involve basic administrative support such as filing, photocopying, and warehouse organization, contributing to overall office efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide safe and efficient transportation services for authorized personnel and/or goods. This involves operating light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, or other land transport, and potentially speedboats or other watercraft. Key duties include adhering to authorized itineraries and UN safety regulations, ensuring secure and efficient service delivery. The role also entails receiving officials and visitors at arrival points, assisting with basic visa and customs formalities, and maintaining meticulous vehicle logs. Daily reporting on mechanical conditions is crucial for efficient vehicle and fuel usage. Responsibilities extend to keeping the assigned vehicle and equipment clean and in good working order, performing timely maintenance, and ensuring the vehicle is fully equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies. Immediate reporting of any mechanical issues to the supervisor is essential. Beyond driving, the position may involve basic office and warehouse administrative tasks, such as filing, photocopying, organizing storage, mail delivery, and handling bill payments, providing essential administrative support.
Work Experience
Candidates must have at least two years of work experience as a driver. Preference is given to those with experience in international organizations, embassies, or the UN system, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is required. Defensive driving experience is a plus.
