Security Officer
Organizational Context
This position is based in Caracas, Venezuela. The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and building pathways to peace. The Security Officer will support the WFP Country Office in Venezuela, operating under the guidance of senior security officials and contributing to the safety of personnel and operations.
Job Purpose
The Security Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day management of WFP's security operations in Venezuela. This involves contributing to the development and implementation of security plans, ensuring compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS), and managing access control measures to safeguard WFP personnel, activities, and facilities. The role requires liaising with UN security bodies, providing operational support, and preparing timely reports to inform senior management on security matters. Additionally, the Security Officer will assist in managing security equipment, supporting HR on security staffing, and conducting security orientations for new staff, ultimately facilitating the effective delivery of WFP's humanitarian programs.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Security Officer to support the management of daily security operations in Caracas, Venezuela. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of WFP's programs by maintaining the safety and security of personnel, activities, and facilities. Key responsibilities include contributing to security and continuity planning, testing emergency systems, and liaising with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and other in-country security entities. The officer will also provide operational support for compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Residential Security Standards (MORSS), manage access control measures, and support the security budget and equipment management. Additionally, the role involves maintaining liaison with the Human Resources Unit on security staffing matters, collecting and reporting on local security developments, conducting security orientation briefings for new staff, and supporting training activities. The Security Officer will assist their supervisor during emergencies and perform other duties as required, contributing to a secure environment for WFP operations and staff.
Work Experience
Requires one or more years of progressive professional experience in security management (military, policy, or corporate) or security risk management. A background and interest in international humanitarian development are also needed. Experience in managing support staff is essential.
