Job Purpose
The Logistics Associate (CBT) will provide specialized support for Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) operations in South Sudan, ensuring the efficient, secure, and accountable delivery of assistance. This role involves assessing and strengthening the local retail sector's capacity to support indirect food assistance, conducting supply chain risk assessments, and mapping markets. The incumbent will build and maintain productive relationships with contracted retailers, manage their performance, resolve complaints, and provide capacity building on food storage and handling. Additionally, the associate will undertake field missions to support CBT and food systems activities, contributing to WFP's mission of saving lives and changing lives by ensuring effective humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Associate (CBT) plays a crucial role in supporting the World Food Programme's (WFP) operations in South Sudan, specifically focusing on Cash-Based Transfers (CBT). This position involves contributing to the development and implementation of supply chain plans and procedures aligned with WFP's strategy. A key responsibility is assessing the local retail sector's capacity to deliver indirect food assistance, both in regular and emergency contexts. The associate will conduct early warning assessments and risk analysis of food supply chains, including mapping and evaluating market capacity and elasticity. Building and maintaining strong relationships with supply chain stakeholders, including contracted retailers, is essential. This includes managing retailer performance against key indicators, resolving complaints, and providing capacity building on food storage, handling, and pest management. The role also requires undertaking field missions to support Area Offices in CBT and food systems activities, ensuring efficient, secure, and accountable delivery of assistance. Extensive experience in CBT implementation, market interventions, digital innovation, and food systems is vital for success in this role.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 6 years of post-secondary experience in humanitarian logistics or supply chain operations, with at least 3 years specifically in Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) activities. Essential experience includes stakeholder coordination, networking with supply chain actors, managing retailer/vendor relationships, and working in complex emergency and institutional environments. Proficiency in computer applications, data management, and analysis is also necessary.
