Job Purpose
The External Relations & Communications Officer in Jordan will lead and coordinate partnerships, communications, and operational reporting to enhance the Country Office's external engagement, positioning, and advocacy. This role is crucial for ensuring a coherent narrative and messaging across all external communications, supporting effective engagement with government, donors, partners, and media. The officer will provide strategic analysis of contextual developments to inform management decisions, safeguard reputational risk, enhance visibility, and drive resource mobilization efforts. By managing a multidisciplinary team and ensuring alignment across external relations outputs, the position is key to maintaining WFP's profile and supporting its mission in Jordan.
Responsibilities
The External Relations Officer is responsible for coordinating and aligning all external engagement activities, including partnerships, communications, and reporting, to enhance the Country Office’s positioning and advocacy. This involves shaping strategic narratives and messaging, developing high-quality briefing materials, and contributing to effective engagement with government counterparts, donors, and partners. The role requires monitoring national and global trends to inform external strategies, identify risks and opportunities, and advise management. Key responsibilities include managing communications plans, guiding the development of diverse communication products to raise the organization's profile and support fundraising, and leading media engagement while managing reputational risks. Additionally, the officer oversees operational information management and reporting, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with external messaging. This includes facilitating collaboration to strengthen data and analysis, and identifying reporting gaps. The role also involves managing the relevant team, ensuring cross-functional coordination, and representing the organization in external engagements as delegated.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of progressive post-graduate experience, including 3 years of professional experience in international development or humanitarian fields. Extensive experience in external relations, partnerships, and strategic communications with international organizations is essential. Proven ability in strategic positioning, advocacy, messaging, developing high-level materials, and managing multidisciplinary teams is also necessary.
