Job Purpose
The Aviation Officer will support and administer air transport activities and air movements under the supervision of the Chief Air Transport Officer. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of air services in support of WFP's humanitarian operations. The officer will be responsible for coordinating air operations, ensuring compliance with WFP standards and risk management procedures, and contributing to the effective humanitarian air transportation. Key responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data to improve performance, supporting financial analysis and budget reviews, providing guidance to staff, preparing timely reports for informed decision-making, and supporting capacity building for safe aviation operations. The role also involves building relationships with aviation colleagues and preparing for emergency aviation needs.
Responsibilities
The Aviation Officer, under the supervision of the Chief Air Transport Officer, is responsible for overseeing and managing air transport activities and movements. This role involves coordinating and administering air operations to ensure compliance with World Food Programme (WFP) standards and risk management procedures, thereby supporting the delivery of safe and efficient air services. Key duties include supporting aviation projects and daily operations, collecting and analyzing data to recommend performance improvements, and assisting with financial analysis and budget reviews. The officer will also provide guidance to support staff, contribute to accurate reporting for informed decision-making, and support capacity building for WFP staff and partners on safe aviation operations. Additionally, the role requires identifying and building relationships with aviation colleagues, following emergency preparedness practices for rapid response, and potentially acting in an assigned emergency response capacity. The position requires an advanced university degree in Aviation or a related field, with at least one year of professional experience, or a first university degree with at least three years of experience. Fluency in English and French is essential, along with experience in flight clearances, coordinating with aviation authorities, and monitoring operational reports.
