Organizational Context
This role is based in the WFP Country Office in Haiti, operating under the general supervision of the Head of Security and reporting directly to the Security Officer. The incumbent will work under close guidance, receiving regular feedback, and will be involved in security operational support and analytical tasks of limited complexity, contributing to the overall security framework of the office.
Job Purpose
The Security Operations Support Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day management of WFP's security operations in Haiti. This involves contributing to the development and implementation of security and safety contingency plans, ensuring compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Residential Security Standards (MORSS). The role also encompasses managing access control measures, supporting the security budget and procurement planning, and overseeing security equipment. Additionally, the officer will liaise with UNDSS and other UN security bodies, collect and report on local security developments, provide security briefings to new staff, and support training initiatives, all to ensure the safety and security of WFP personnel, activities, and facilities, thereby facilitating the effective delivery of programmes.
Responsibilities
The Security Operations Support Officer role at the World Food Programme (WFP) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of WFP personnel, activities, and facilities. This position involves contributing to security and continuity planning, including testing emergency systems for WFP facilities. The officer will liaise with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and attend security management meetings to keep WFP management and staff informed about local security matters. A key responsibility is supporting compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Residential Security Standards (MORSS) across various WFP offices. The role also encompasses managing access control measures for facilities, supporting the security budget and procurement planning, and overseeing the management of security equipment to ensure it meets established standards. Additionally, the officer will collaborate with the Human Resources Unit on security staffing matters, collect and report on local security developments, and provide security orientation briefings to new staff. Supporting training activities and assisting supervisors during emergencies are also integral parts of the job. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management and operational support within a humanitarian context.
Work Experience
Requires one or more years of progressive professional experience in security management (military, policy, or corporate) or security risk management. A background and interest in international humanitarian development are also needed. Experience in managing support staff is essential.
