Job Purpose
The Programme Officer - School Feeding will play a crucial role in supporting and shaping WFP's school feeding initiatives. This position involves leading the implementation of school feeding programs, including the expansion of Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) pilots, and coordinating activities with field offices and supply chain units to ensure timely assistance and effective monitoring. The role requires fostering partnerships with government, UN agencies, and civil society to strengthen capacities and align with national priorities. Key responsibilities include integrating school feeding with other sectors like nutrition and social protection, advocating for infrastructure improvements, promoting environmental sustainability, and contributing to funding proposals and donor visibility. The officer will represent WFP in strategic coordination platforms and ensure proper documentation for accountability.
Responsibilities
The role involves leading the implementation of school feeding programs, particularly the Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) pilot, and supporting the registration of early childhood development centers. Key responsibilities include coordinating program management with field offices and supply chain units for timely assistance and effective monitoring. This position requires exploring and fostering partnerships with government, UN agencies, and civil society to enhance existing capacities and align with national priorities and guidelines for school feeding and social protection programs. Collaboration with internal functional units (Nutrition, Food Systems, M&E) is crucial for integration and accountability. The role also entails identifying opportunities for WFP to support government capacity strengthening, mobilizing technical expertise for training, and exploring inter-sectoral collaborations (agriculture, health) to improve program quality. Regular oversight visits, timely responses to government queries, and representation in strategic coordination platforms like the Local Education Group are expected. Furthermore, the position involves ensuring proper documentation, advocating for infrastructure improvements, promoting environmentally friendly and dietary diversification activities, and contributing to project development, including funding proposals and donor briefs. Collaboration with other UN agencies for joint activities and acting as a focal point for social protection are also key duties, alongside promoting donor visibility.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of relevant work experience, including implementing technical programs (e.g., nutrition), designing operations, and contributing to policy discussions and decisions.
