Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer (Planning & Monitoring) will be instrumental in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of WFP's logistics operations, particularly for the South Africa/Durban corridor. This role involves leading the monitoring of corridor performance, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains, and managing operational costs. The incumbent will oversee the budgeting and reconciliation processes for regional corridors, ensuring alignment with operational realities. Additionally, they will supervise the timely and compliant management of purchase orders and payments for the South Africa/Durban corridor, contributing to the overall goal of delivering humanitarian assistance effectively and sustainably.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities involve leading regional corridor performance monitoring by establishing and maintaining tracking processes and dashboards for global Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This includes monitoring performance, identifying best practices for improvement and optimization, and preparing periodic reports. A key aspect is managing the efficiency gains process, tracking progress, and reporting on opportunities. Additionally, the role requires maintaining a risk corridor register, monitoring risk levels, and escalating issues to management. Another significant responsibility is managing cost budgeting and reconciliation for regional corridor services. This entails leading the implementation of budgeting solutions, proposing costing methodologies, and establishing cost-sharing agreements. The role involves defining annual plans and budgets, conducting quarterly and annual reconciliations, advising on optimal hub staffing and infrastructure, and preparing budgeting reports. Facilitating training on budgeting processes and digital tools is also part of this function. Furthermore, the position supervises the budget, Purchase Order (PO), and payment lifecycle for South Africa/Durban corridor operations, ensuring timely processing of Proforma Invoices, POs, and payments. Other duties include supporting the implementation of global processes and SOPs, strengthening data sharing and communication frameworks, and guiding team members. The role also involves acting as an alternate for the Corridor Planning & Monitoring Lead when necessary.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of postgraduate professional experience. Must have extensive practical experience in logistics operation management, performance monitoring and analysis, and efficiency gain. Also requires extensive experience in people management.
