Job Purpose
The Site Maintenance Assistant will provide essential skilled support for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and general site facilities at WFP Headquarters. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe, comfortable, and reliable working environment for all staff. The incumbent will perform preventive maintenance, coordinate various site services, conduct inspections, manage inventory, and report on maintenance activities. This position contributes directly to the operational efficiency and upkeep of WFP's facilities, ensuring they meet high standards of functionality and safety, in line with WFP's commitment to cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
Responsibilities
The Site Maintenance Assistant is responsible for a wide range of facility upkeep tasks to ensure a safe, functional, and clean working environment. This includes planning, coordinating, and executing civil maintenance works such as painting, masonry, plasterboard installation, flooring, carpentry, furniture repair, and minor blacksmithing, adhering to quality and safety standards. The role also involves overseeing and monitoring portering and cleaning services, including gardening, pest control, and waste management, through regular inspections to ensure contractor performance meets expectations and to identify areas for improvement. A key responsibility is assisting in maintaining accurate inventory records, including physical checks and database management, and arranging the disposal of obsolete equipment and materials in compliance with WFP asset management guidelines. Furthermore, the position requires compiling detailed reports on completed works, services rendered, and materials used, which aids in accurate accounting and future planning. The assistant supports their supervisor by evaluating installation and repair works, comparing material costs, and contributing to the planning of preventive maintenance to ensure cost-effective site operations. They may also provide technical supervision to building maintenance teams, guide work methods, and personally intervene to ensure WFP quality standards are met by external contractors.
Work Experience
Requires four or more years of progressive experience in planning and executing specialized electrical installations, maintenance, and repair. This includes hands-on experience in painting, minor construction, carpentry, plasterboard installation, and basic plumbing. Additionally, at least one year of experience at a G3 level or equivalent is necessary.
