Job Purpose
The Assistant for Coordination and Information Management will support the Head of Area Office in collecting, analyzing, and coordinating humanitarian information in La Guajira and specific municipalities. This role is crucial for supporting the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and the Resident Coordinator's Office, particularly in emergency response and the territorialization of the UN Cooperation Framework. The position involves processing information within the Humanitarian Programme Cycle, facilitating inter-agency coordination, and producing key information products like situation reports and infographics. The aim is to enhance coherence, articulation, and synergy in the response efforts of UN agencies, international cooperation, and national NGOs, ensuring timely and accurate information for decision-making and effective humanitarian action.
Responsibilities
The role of the Information Management and Coordination Assistant for the Local Coordination Teams (ELC) in La Guajira involves supporting humanitarian coordination and information management efforts. Key responsibilities include collecting, consolidating, and analyzing data on humanitarian impacts, human mobility, armed violence, and climate-related disasters in the La Guajira region and specific municipalities. This analysis is crucial for informing decision-making at local and national levels, including humanitarian clusters and coordination bodies. The position also supports the territorialization of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework by gathering information and producing inter-agency analysis to strengthen coordination between humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding priorities. The assistant will process information within the Humanitarian Programme Cycle, facilitate inter-institutional coordination, and support partner processes. They will actively contribute to intersectoral and inter-agency coordination, guiding analysis prioritization, identifying gaps, and formulating strategic recommendations. Maintaining and updating information systems, platforms, and tools is essential, as is generating key messages, emergency information products, and context reports with a differential approach (gender, age, ethnicity). The role includes updating departmental humanitarian briefings, leading rapid needs assessments, and organizing coordination meetings. Furthermore, the assistant will conduct capacity-building activities for local actors and identify opportunities for broader participation in information management. They will also support the Head of Office in tracking response actions and other relevant situations for national-level engagement.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of four years of experience in roles related to inter-institutional and/or inter-agency coordination, information analysis, report writing, and humanitarian affairs coordination. Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (QGIS, ArcGIS, Power BI, Tableau, Adobe Suite) is necessary, along with advanced spreadsheet and database skills. Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative methodologies for project monitoring and evaluation is also required. Experience with the United Nations is desirable.
