Knowledge Management Specialist (open To Tier 0, 1 And 2 Candidates Only)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. The Volunteer Advisory Services Section (VASS) functions as a Knowledge and Policy hub on volunteerism for the SDGs, generating and consolidating evidence, and advocating for its integration into policies. This role reports to the Policy Specialist (Evidence) within VASS.
Job Purpose
The Knowledge Management Specialist will coordinate knowledge management strategies within the Volunteer Advisory Services Section (VASS) and identify synergies with other UNV sections to enhance the visibility and accessibility of UNV's work. This role is crucial for generating and sharing credible knowledge, managing essential platforms like the Knowledge Portal on Volunteerism, and identifying/addressing knowledge gaps. The specialist will contribute to UNV's positioning as a knowledge hub, supporting the integration of volunteerism into global development agendas and ensuring meaningful contributions to future initiatives through effective knowledge management and dissemination.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate knowledge management initiatives, including developing a KM Strategy and Work Plan aligned with UNV priorities. Manage the UNV Knowledge Portal on Volunteerism, liaising with internal and external stakeholders for content, and enhancing its components (country data, evidence library, knowledge exchange). Systematically identify, capture, and promote key evidence to support advocacy efforts. Review and improve existing KM systems, tools, and approaches, and measure their effectiveness. Contribute to outreach and knowledge exchange through the portal and online events, developing multimedia products and summarizing research findings. Advance partnerships and stakeholder engagement by identifying launch opportunities for key reports, contributing to events, and managing dissemination plans. Facilitate effective knowledge management systems by planning outreach events, proposing strategies to position the Knowledge Portal, and leading documentation efforts. Provide support for research functions, offer helpdesk assistance to field units, and ensure quality control of knowledge products.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in research and knowledge management is required for candidates with a Master's degree, or 7 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience must include demonstrated application of research methodologies. Experience in development programming, publishing analytical papers, and familiarity with the UN system or international organizations are desirable.
