Translate Toolkit (SViECT) from English to Sinhala and Tamil
Organizational Context
UNESCO is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to fostering peace through cooperation in education, culture, science, and communication. It operates globally with numerous field offices. The Sport Values in Every Classroom Toolkit (SViECT) aims to integrate sport values like respect, equity, and inclusion into education via movement-based activities, providing a foundation for youth to contribute positively to society. This initiative has been adapted and piloted in India.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to translate the Sport Values in Every Classroom Toolkit (SViECT) from English into Sinhala and Tamil for Sri Lanka. This translation will ensure that teachers and students in Sri Lanka can access and benefit from the toolkit's valuable content. The toolkit itself is designed to embed universal sport values into educational settings through engaging activities, fostering respect, equity, and inclusion. By making the toolkit available in local languages, UNESCO aims to strengthen the foundation for young people to positively impact their communities through sport.
Responsibilities
Four Online Volunteers are sought to translate the SViECT toolkit materials from English into Sinhala (2 volunteers) and Tamil (2 volunteers). Responsibilities include translating activity cards, the Facilitator’s Manual, and scripts, ensuring the translations are concise, adhere to communication guidelines, and are appropriate for the target audience. The total volume of translation includes approximately 18,000 words for English Scripts, 20,000 words for Activity Cards, and 8,000 words for the Facilitator Manual. Volunteers will be provided with the source documents and guidance on audience and communication standards.
Work Experience
Candidates must be native speakers of Sinhala and Tamil, and fluent in English. Familiarity with technical terms related to sport for development is advantageous. Previous translation experience is considered an asset. A short translation test will be part of the selection process.

Key skills include native proficiency in Sinhala and Tamil, fluency in English, and strong written translation abilities. Familiarity with sport for development terminology is beneficial. Adherence to communication guidelines and the ability to produce concise, audience-appropriate translations are essential.
