Job Purpose
The Emergency Program Officer will support UNICEF's emergency response in Blue Nile and Sennar, Sudan, under the guidance of the CFO in Damazine. This role is crucial for establishing and managing effective emergency response mechanisms. The incumbent will oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of key programmatic sections, including health, nutrition, WASH, education, and child protection, as well as operational aspects. The position also involves coordinating efforts with all relevant staff in Damazine and across Sudan to ensure a cohesive and impactful emergency response.
Responsibilities
Provide field-level technical support to partners in WASH, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, and Social & Behavioural Change (SBC). Participate in needs assessments and contribute expertise to emergency response planning during humanitarian crises. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sectoral interventions to ensure objectives are met and improve child outcomes. Prepare periodic progress reports, briefings, and other required documentation. Collaborate with UN agencies, local stakeholders, NGOs, and community organizations to coordinate efforts and maximize impact. Support the capacity building of local partners as part of the localization strategy. Manage and analyze field data in coordination with the Programme Coordinator to support evidence-based programming, presenting findings to stakeholders. Contribute to funding proposals by providing contextual updates and insights into programmatic priorities. Facilitate community consultations for program design, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring cultural relevance and awareness of interventions. Undertake field travel and perform additional tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience is required. This includes strong oral and written communication, drafting, and reporting skills. Experience working in challenging environments, with diverse partners, and in multicultural teams is essential. Proficiency in MS Office applications, database management, and office technology is necessary. Self-motivation, ability to work with minimal supervision, and meet tight deadlines are also key. Desirable experience includes a valid driver's license for manual 4x4 vehicles and security awareness.
