Organizational Context

The United Nations Resident Coordinator system ensures the coordination of UN development activities at the country level, integrating the expertise of various UN entities. The UN Development Coordination Office supports this function. This role supports the UNCG Pacific Secretariat, contributing to the UN's development-focused coordination efforts.

Job Purpose

This assignment aims to support the UNCG Pacific Secretariat by transforming written content into a visually engaging digital storybook. Four Online Volunteers will collaborate to design and produce a professional digital publication suitable for online dissemination. The volunteers will help effectively present stories and messages, enhancing stakeholder engagement and communication efforts for the UNCG Pacific Secretariat's initiatives.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the UNCG Pacific Secretariat team, volunteers will develop design concepts, propose layouts, typography, and colour schemes, and present mock-ups for review. They will support the overall structure and visual identity of the publication, designing approximately 30 stories, section dividers, and incorporating visual elements. Volunteers will prepare the publication for digital viewing, ensuring readability and accessibility across platforms, and optimize formatting for electronic use. They will participate in feedback discussions, incorporate revisions, and finalize the publication for approval and dissemination, delivering design mock-ups, a full draft layout, and the final digital publication with editable files.

Work Experience

Required experience includes graphic design and publication layout. Desirable experience encompasses designing reports, magazines, storybooks, newsletters, or digital publications, with a strong eye for visual storytelling and presentation.

Skills

Key skills include proficiency in graphic design and publication layout using software such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, or Affinity Publisher. A strong ability for visual storytelling and presentation is essential. Volunteers must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the capacity to work independently and meet deadlines. Fluency in English is desirable.
