Organizational Context
UNICEF Colombia works to protect the rights of children and adolescents, addressing complex rights violations. Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Colombia's humanitarian response by strengthening direct community communication, participation, and accountability to affected populations in emergency settings. The UN Volunteer will integrate into the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) team, collaborating with various UNICEF sectors and external actors. The primary goal is to enhance community accountability mechanisms through social listening, feedback loops, and meaningful participation, ensuring interventions are evidence-informed and responsive to affected populations' needs. The role also involves adapting critical information to local contexts, facilitating access to services, and strengthening coordination with community leaders and organizations.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will integrate SBC, Risk Communication, and Community Engagement (RCCE), and AAP approaches into UNICEF's humanitarian response and programmatic interventions. Key duties include maintaining active presence in affected communities to foster two-way communication and trust, facilitating inclusive dialogue and participation spaces, and implementing/strengthening accessible feedback mechanisms. The role involves conducting social and community listening to identify information needs, perceptions, and barriers, and managing the transformation of rumors and misinformation with evidence-based responses. Responsibilities also include adapting and validating inclusive communication materials, coordinating with inter-agency teams on reporting and partner orientation, strengthening community networks, and building capacities of local actors in relevant approaches. The volunteer will support monitoring and evaluation of interventions and contribute to VNU mandate promotion.
Work Experience
Requires 7 years of proven experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring accountability strategies in humanitarian contexts, public health emergencies, displacement, or natural disasters. Experience in social and behavioural assessments, community listening, feedback mechanisms, and using behavioral evidence is essential. Strong analytical, planning, coordination, and communication skills are required. Experience in Colombia, with UN agencies, and knowledge of UNICEF procedures are desirable.
